Peach Pageants mark official start of festival events

The reigning Lexington County Peach Queen, Lindsey Morgan Roof, will crown her successor on Saturday, July 2.  Contestants vying for the title of 2016 Lexington County Peach Queen met with Lindsey and Pageant Chairs, Miriam Matthews and Kathy Hoffman at a tea on June 25.    Vying for the title of this year’s Peach Queen are Meagan Lynn Bostic, Catherine Hood Kirkland, Lexie deMoya, and Karoline Rose Kitchings.

Sheriff Koon named Grand Marshal for 58th Peach Festival

This year’s Grand Marshal for the 58th  Lexington County Peach Festival parade will be Lexington County Sheriff Bryan “Jay” Koon.  The parade will begin at 9:30 a.m. on July 4th.  Sheriff Koon, the 39th Sheriff of Lexington County, will also be the Festival’s 11 a.m. program speaker in the Gilbert Primary School cafetorium.  Weather permitting, the start of the parade will be signaled with a fly-over by Don Bell of Bell Aviation in an N3N. Bell’s plane was built in 1940 at the Naval Aircraft factory in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  It was used in World War II for training.

Local Students showcase creativity in Peach Art Contest 2016

With help from art teachers at each of the Gilbert public schools, the Lexington County Peach Festival recently recognized winners of the 2016 Peachy Art awards.  These awards are sponsored annually by Michelin.  Students from kindergarten age through high school were honored for their creative talent.
